What is important to you. What do you value? I talked to a couple of people in New York City and they had some interesting things to say about values. A young man by the name of Ricky Thompson goes into schools, on his own time, and speaks to children about getting a good education. He say’s he gets more out of it than the children do.
So, what do we value? That is determined by two things, money and time. What we value we spend our money on. What we value is what we give our time to. In our country we have a load of rights. We hold on to rights with all our strength. We do have a bill of rights but we also have the declaration of independence which is all about values.
I am driving my grandson david to school and thinking about what our country needs. Dewey How about a new political platform? A platform that stress honesty, integrity and character. The real crisis in America is not financial it is not oil, it is the breakdown of morality.
The rebuilding of the World Trade Centre inspires me in so many ways.
Stuff happens in life. Sometimes we get knocked down. The question is do we get up again. That is what living is all about.
The Vancouver Canucks start the playoffs. In Vancouver this is bigger than Christmas and Easter rolled into one. For some it transcends sports and almost reaches a religious quality. (All hail the Canucks) The Vancouver team will play some lads from down South. (California boys) The deal is if I lived in California I would rather be on the beach than on the ice. These California boys have a great goalie and they play tight defence and plan on winning low scoring games. It has worked so far.
So the other question is, well there will be riots if the team wins or loses. I think there are enough social rejects in Vancouver to try again. This is the only way some people ever get attention. We do not realize how socially inept a large section of our population is. When you have a Vancouver Justice System (now there is an oxymoron) like the one we put up with it does not deter a lot of socially dysfunctional idiots who live in our land.
Ted.com is having a contest and they are looking for speakers. They wanted a one minute demo , so we put this video together. This is material from the school assembly program that I have shared around the world over the past number of years. I hope you like it and I really hope the Ted people like it.
So I lost my wallet today and I had an opportunity to be upset. The saying came to mind,”in everything give thanks.”. It does not say give thanks for everything. It says in everything give thanks. It is so rewarding to listen to what people have to say. The old saying you cannot judge a book by it’s cover is true. I have interviewed the experts , the pro’s and the stars but the people I enjoy talking to most is the everyday person who may never be a public speaker but I have found out that they usually have something profound to say.
Words have the power to inspire us. Words can activate great things in us. A good coach can motivate his team to overcome great adversity. A great speaker can move a nation. A great actor can create a lasting impression. The words from a movie can become part of pop culture.
The power of words. Wow, I didn’t think we would be doing this long of a series. Let’s recap some of the main points in what I have been sharing.
Words form pictures or images, so words are instrumental in forming what we call, “Self Image.” Your thoughts form your world. What you speak has creative power. Your words can be constructive or destructive. What you focus on in your life grows. What you think about expands. What you dwell on determines your destiny.
